This time it's for the Nine Years War in Ireland. The original idea was to create two separate armies, one Spanish, one Irish. However common sense prevailed so plan is now for one combined force a la Kinsale.
The three figures are 28mm from Warrior, left is an Irish Gallowglass, centre a Spanish musketeer and a Spanish pikeman.
Pros
Price
Appearance fits period in question reasonably well.
Cons
The two Spanish figures are the only ones Warrior do.
The Gallowglass is only available in that pose, the only other Irish figure in the Warrior list is a Kern.
Likely a later go ahead with the following:
SPANISH
Command
Caballos ligeros (4)
Medium guns (2)
Tercio pike (4)
Tercio shot (4)
Targeteers (4)
IRISH
Command
Light horse (8)
Gallowglasses (4)
Bonnacht pikemen (4)
Kerns (6)
Well, maybe.

Nice, very nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil; they're not much to look at individually but en masse could be impressive.
Deletekhurasan do these beautifully in 15mm. I plan to get to them some day!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that; that's a scale I could never really get into.
